Looking for something different to try? With so many activities and services going digital, you don't have to leave the comfort of your home for fresh experiences. Whether you're wanting to learn a new skill or find a moment of zen, here are five locally based online workshops:

Painting Furniture 101

On Thursday, July 9, from 6–8 p.m. and Sunday, July 12, from 10 a.m.-noon, local art studio Let's Create Art will be sharing its love of furniture restoration. During this two-hour workshop, participants will be guided on how best to prep, paint and protect a piece of furniture. The $20 class will provide a list of supplies to have on hand and a Zoom link to join for guided instruction. Once you've mastered painting 101, the studio offers other workshops, including how to create ombre finishes and making a profit from restoring furniture. New hobby, anyone?

Build Positive Energy

Local gift shop and center for conscious living Elysian Fields is hosting a three-part segment called "Thriving as an Empath in Times of Change" via Facebook Live. Led by intuitive reader Julie Klutinoty, these free online workshops will run from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on July 15, 22 and 29. Sessions will focus on practices to keep negative energies from dampening your spirit and ways to strengthen yourself to help guide others. Each session will conclude with a discussion on how to help empathetic and intuitive children navigate these uncertain times. Klutinoty will also be available for participant questions on the final night.

Wild Yoga

Big Cat Habitat will be debuting its first virtual “wild yoga” session from 9-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 18. Live from the fox habitat, yoga instructor Erika Cain will guide participants through 30 minutes of flow. No purchase is necessary, although donations are appreciated and help support more than 150 animals that call the sanctuary home. The session will be live-streamed across all of Big Cat Habitat's social media platforms. Come for the foxes, stay for the stretching.

Healing Arts

Cypress Pillar Healing Arts has begun to offer many of its classes online. The extensive virtual schedule includes plenty of workshops that can help keep you active including adult martial arts courses in boxing, grappling and jujutsu, Tai Chi or tribal belly dancing. Sign up for a six-week course package or drop into a session for a flat fee. Also available is the Cypress Pillar Mystery School, with rotating workshops on subjects such as tarot reading, runes and meditation. Check out Cypress Pillar's website for more information.

Drink Like a Pirate

In celebration of its first year of business, Loaded Cannon Distillery will be hosting a trio of online mixology classes via Facebook Live at the end of the month. Tune in to learn how to make master mixologist Michelle Russel's signature cocktails, including a Strawberry Basil Martini, Pirate's Coffee and a Smoked Old Pirate Fashioned. As usual, Load Cannon's lessons in liquor will be fused with local pirate lore. Forms are available on the event page to pre-order supplies and needed bar accouterments, such as a muddler or a shaker. Better get to practicing your “yo-ho-hos!”
