According to the South Florida Sun-SentinelLucky’s Market is closing its Sarasota location—and almost all of its 21 Florida stores—by Feb. 12. The company opened its Sarasota location in June 2017 and planned to open stores in Venice, Clearwater and Bradenton over the next two years; however, the Sun-Sentinel reports that only the Melbourne location will remain open after the closures. The move comes after Lucky's parent company, Kroger, announced in December 2019 that it planned to divest its ownership in the supermarket chain. The store's approximately 2,500 Florida employees learned of the closures early Tuesday morning.

Lucky's, headquartered in Colorado, was a pioneer of the "groceraunt" concept, which includes the usual shopping options, along with kiosks serving prepared dishes and tables where diners could sit and hang out. The Sarasota Lucky’s offered customers $2 pints of beer or $3 glasses of wine to sip while shopping, a ramen and sushi station, a made-to-order sandwich stop and more. Liquidation sales will start this Wednesday.
