Former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter, Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., will be named the Republican Party of Sarasota’s 2017 Statesman of the Year and Stateswoman of the Year. Past recipients of the award include President Donald Trump (twice), Sen. Ted Cruz, Florida Gov. Rick Scott, Fox News host Sean Hannity and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour. The awards program for the Cheneys will take place Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Westin in downtown Sarasota, 1175 N. Gulfstream Ave., Sarasota. A VIP reception begins at 5:45 p.m.; the program starts at 7. Tickets cost $50-$175.
