Harvey Milk and supporters walk to San Francisco City Hall for Milk to be sworn in as Supervisor in 1977.

Sarasota’s Harvey Milk Festival, honoring the legacy of the pioneering activist-politician, celebrates its 10th anniversary this month with a line-up of musicians (glam dream pop band GGOOLLDD, hardcore acoustic doowop band Pinc Louds, ambient electronic band LANNDS and local fave MeteorEYES), performing May 11 at downtown’s JD Hamel Park. But that’s only the rocking conclusion of a week that begins with HMF’s first ever 5K Ringling Bridge Run (May 4, and prizes will be awarded for Best Costume!) and includes the exhibition Before Harvey: An Exploration of LGBTQ+ History May 9-11 at Art Center Sarasota and HMF DANCE May 10, a night blending spoken word, performance art, dance, film and more (at 500 Tallevast Road). Some events are free; for full details, go to harveymilkfestival.org.
