When you think of horse racing fans, boxers aren’t the first people that come to mind, right? But honestly, you cannot blame them. After all, horse racing is a truly exciting sport, and it has always drawn the attention of successful athletes, regardless of the sport in question.

This means that there are plenty of boxers who love horse racing. Boxing and horse racing might be worlds apart, but since these fearless athletes are drawn to adrenaline, horse racing might be the perfect choice.

For decades, some of the biggest names in the boxing industry have found themselves drawn to the racetrack. Not only as spectators, but some also went deep enough and became investors and owners.

Boxing and horse racing share similarities in precision, stamina, and adrenaline, which is why they are often compared. They both attract massive crowds, huge wagers, and that adrenaline rush you cannot get elsewhere.

The question is, who are the biggest names from the boxing industry that fell in love with horse racing?

Muhammad Ali

We start with one of the greatest boxers of all time - Muhammad Ali. He is one of the most influential athletes in the world, and he is not only known for being a talented boxer but also for his charisma and cultural impact. Ye, when the cameras went away, Ali had a deep affection for horses.

Honestly, for a life that boxers live, horses make a lot of sense since they can relax them and bring them calm to the chaotic world of boxing.

On top of that, he was born in Louisville, which is the beating heart of American horse racing. This means that he grew up surrounded by Derby fever. Every other person in Louisville either owns or talks about horses.

That’s why later in life, when he built his famed retreat “Fighter’s Heaven” in Pennsylvania, he made sure to include horse stables along his cabins and training ring. He managed to combine both of his passions.

We can find plenty of photos from Ali online where he is surrounded by horses, and you can tell that he is happy. This proves that even fearless champions need something that brings peace and joy in their lives.

Tyson Fury

Tyson Fury is known as the “Gypsy King,” and gypsies loved their horses. While Fury is still active in boxing, he’s already poured significant time and money into horse racing, particularly National Hunt racing (the jumping side of the sport). He even wanted to win the Grand National, with only $50,000 worth of horses, which, of course, didn’t happen.

He bought several promising horses throughout his life, like the Big Gypsy King, Cossack Chach, and Sea the Clouds. This proves that horse racing for him is more than just a hobby. He is also a top fan of the sport and constantly attends big horse racing events with his family.

Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Let me ask you a question: what’s the first thing that comes to mind when we talk about horse racing? Probably money, right? Well, what’s the first thing that comes to mind when we talk about money and boxing? Probably Floyd “Money” Mayweather. The undefeated champion, famous for his extravagant lifestyle and his love for horse racing, fits perfectly into his world.

Since he is a boxing icon and one of the most successful boxers of all time, he is attracted to big money. That’s why Mayweather has been a regular at big events like the Kentucky Derby and the Breeders’ Cup. He is also big on betting and always shares some ridiculously wild bets that he made on horse racing.

But if you are not Floyd Mayweather, and you don’t have money to burn, it is better to dive deeper into events like Breeders’ Cup, learn more about the top horses and contenders that have the best chance to win the race. You can do that here: https://www.twinspires.com/breeders-cup/contenders/

Now Floyd Mayweather is only a wild spectator of the sport. He hasn’t dove deeper like Fury into racehorse ownership, but who knows, maybe this his reserved for some later stages in his life when he settles down.

Why Boxers Love the Racetrack

So, what is it about horse racing that drives boxers in? Well, part of it is the atmosphere. Big and successful boxers love a bit of fame and love to mix with other high-influential individuals, which is why horse racing events are perfect for them.

Next, we have the adrenaline and dopamine rush, which gives them similar feelings to those they have when they are in the ring. They are drawn to that adrenaline since they’ve been boxing for most of their lives.

Lastly, some boxers see horses as a way to relieve stress and relax from the crazy boxing world.

So, this proves that boxing and horse racing aren’t that different. To be honest, it is weird not to see even more boxing names that transitioned to horse racing.
