The teams for the 2025 Ryder Cup contest being held from September 26-28 at Bethpage Black Golf Course in New York have started to take shape.

All six of the United States’ automatic qualifiers are known, while five of the six guaranteed places in the European team have been confirmed.

US captain Keegan Bradley will announce the rest of his 12-man line-up on August 27, five days before rival skipper Luke Donald names his full squad.

The latest Ryder Cup betting markets rate the US as the favourites to win the competition, although there is little to chose between the two teams.

Scottie Scheffler, JJ Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English and Bryson DeChambeau have secured their places in the US team.

Bradley is on course to double up as captain and player this year after securing tenth place in the US Ryder Cup standings. Arnold Palmer was the last playing captain in the event in 1963.

Major champions Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa are among the top players who have missed out on automatic qualification for the US team.

Europe's qualification process concludes after the British Masters at the Belfry. Just one automatic spot remains up for grabs and rests between Shane Lowry and Rasmus Hojgaard.

Rory McIlroy, Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose and Tyrrell Hatton are the five players already confirmed to the European squad.

Spain's Jon Rahm looks nailed on to be handed a wildcard spot, while Sweden's Ludvig Aberg and Norwegian Viktor Hovland are also likely to be in Donald’s team.

Europe, who triumphed 16½-11½ in Rome in 2023, are bidding to become the first away side to win since they emerged victorious at Medinah in 2012.

Rose’s surge into the top six in the European standings has ended the debates about whether he should be included in the squad.

The 45-year-old has been tipped to replace Donald for the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in the Republic Ireland, and he was desperate to feature as a player this year.

"I don't think there's ever a perfect time to be Ryder Cup captain," Rose said. "It's a big commitment. That's what I've learned over the last few years of watching Luke go about it.

“It's an undertaking that is really, really important. There's never a perfect time to do it, but the opportunity for me personally, it's a huge honour, and I'd love to take it on."

Rose’s experience will be vital to Europe’s hopes of winning the event in September. He has featured in six previous Ryder Cups and been on the winning side on four occasions.

His individual record is 14 wins, nine losses and three ties, a record which equates to him winning almost 60 percent of the points on offer to him.

Rose is particularly strong in foursomes having pieced together a 7-2-1 record in that format. He has posted a 5-4-1 record in four-balls and 2-3-1 in his singles matches.
