A new juried exhibition is now on view at Art Center Sarasota. Visions in Black is the latest initiative of the Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative, a nonprofit in the community that wants to showcase artists of African descent living in Florida and their talent.

The exhibit, judged by Shelia McKoy and Alyssia Lazin and supported by a grant from the Gulfcoast Community Foundation and funds from the Cordelia Lee Beattie Foundation, is open through March 5 and presents work from both emerging and more established artists. Several of the artists whose work is seen have close ties to Sarasota, growing up here or attending the Ringling College of Art and Design or New College.

A reception to honor the artists and welcome guests is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10 at the art center. To learn more, visit suncoastblackartscollaborative.org.
