Old World Quality – New Age Eco-Conscious Furniture

Do your home proud with these earth-friendly, American-made home designs available only at Copenhagen Imports.

Presented by Copenhagen Imports November 5, 2020

The Catalina Bedroom Collection is suggestive of the works of America’s Mid-Century Modern movement with retro-modern shapes.

On the heels of ModWeek here in Sarasota, we’ve been shopping around for mid-century modern anything and came across a brand that not only pays a little nod to the popular style but is sustainably made right here in the States.

Copeland Furniture company shows us you can be environmentally savvy while not compromising aesthetics when decorating your home. They are setting the standard among furniture producers in America for creating products that will stand the test of time in both fashion and construction for a more eco-conscious buyer.

Invigo is a highly configurable series of sit-to-stand desks that can be specified in a range of sizes and finishes.

The Copeland line, found at Copenhagen Imports locally, started as a one-man operation in a small garage, originally known as T. Copeland & Sons. Their initial product was a wooden-framed cider press designed for personal and small orchard use—appropriate for their location in the heart of Vermont, where over 150 types of apples are grown. As they experimented with new products over the years and expanded from their garage headquarters, they began to capitalize on the growing butcher-block furniture craze in the 1970s. Eventually, furniture sales outpaced all of their other products, and now, three generations in, they are a leading provider of sustainable furniture, still made in their home state of Vermont.

Inside the state-of-the-art warehouse, being green is not just a buzzword. From the materials they source to the operation of the plant, the Copeland family values of preservation and stewardship run deep. Stringent ethics and quality practices combine to create beautiful home furnishings with minimal impact to the environment.

Here’s how

  • They use sustainably harvested hardwoods from the American Northern Forest, much of which is located within 500 miles of the factory, consuming less energy right off the bat in sheer transportation of the raw materials.
  • Only environmentally friendly products are used, from the GREENGUARD certified varnishes to CertiPUR-US® certified foams—which means no nasty chemicals, ozone depleters, mercury, heavy metals, etc. will end up in your home.
  • In 2016, the company installed 3 acres’ worth of solar panels, producing 800,000 kilowatt hours of power per year, covering two-thirds of Copeland’s electricity consumption and offsetting nearly one million pounds of CO2 emissions annually.
  • They create their own packaging materials and recycle all excess.
  • They heat their facility with wood waste, reducing their consumption of oil.

Incorporating self-equalizing ball-bearing glides and either one or two self-storing butterfly leaves, the Exeter dining room table can be ordered to seat up to 12.

Shop sustainable and feel good about supporting a company whose culture is one of appreciation and respect for our planet, its employees, and you—their consumers. Shop their newest looks here, or stop into Copenhagen Imports in South Sarasota to take advantage of upcoming holiday sales.
