The American economy added 157,000 jobs in July while the unemployment rate declined from 4 to 3.9 percent, according to new figures released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday. Job gains occurred primarily in professional and business services, manufacturing and health care and social assistance. The unemployment rate had risen from 3.8 percent to 4 percent between May and June.
