How has technology changed laser vision correction?
Since its introduction 27 years ago, LASIK has become one of the safest and most common procedures for vision correction. The biggest technological advancement in LASIK occurred in 2004, when Center For Sight became one of the first practices in Florida to utilize the femtosecond laser, transforming it into an all-laser procedure. The laser has completely replaced the blade and eliminated common blade-related complications. Furthermore, I was an FDA principal investigator for Wavefront technology, another momentous advancement in LASIK. Wavefront laser technology has allowed us to treat errors that even contacts and glasses cannot address, providing some patients with better vision than they have ever achieved, even in glasses. Every LASIK procedure I perform is an all-laser procedure and utilizes Wavefront technology. We are the only practice in the region that can provide this.

What are the latest advancements in vision correction?
For over six years, we have been using the femtosecond laser in other procedures, such as cataract surgery, which has become known as laser cataract surgery. I am now placing thousands of vision-correction implantable lenses per year in patients age 45 years old and up. These advanced technology lenses, such as the Symfony lens and the Tecnis Multi-focal, are able to correct distance vision and near vision in both eyes. These lenses are implanted in a painless, laser-assisted procedure that takes about five minutes per eye. We have extensive experience with all forms of vision correction and we are the only FDA investigational site in Florida for the Presbia Microlens, another up-and-coming technology that provides patients both distance and near vision without glasses. There has never been a more amazing time for vision correction.

“Every LASIK procedure is an all-laser procedure and utilizes Wavefront technology. We are the only practice in the region that can provide this.”
