Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, testing has been an integral part in learning more about the virus and stopping its spread.

Americans now have access to at-home Covid-19 testing kits, which are easy to use and sold at pharmacies like CVS, Publix and Walgreens. Tests cost between $9 and $24.

However, the Biden administration recognized that not everyone can afford these tests. On Jan. 19, the administration rolled out a plan in which Americans can order four free Covid-19 tests through COVIDtests.gov.

Now, another plan—still yet to roll out—will provide free over-the-counter Covid-19 tests to Medicare "Part B" or Medicare Advantage Plan patients, who can get up to eight free Covid-19 tests delivered to their door per month. Test results are delivered within 30 minutes.

Original Medicare does not currently pay for over-the-counter Covid-19 tests, according to the organization's website. In the meantime, patients can pick up free test kits from community health centers and Medicare-certified health clinics.

To order free tests, visit Medicare.gov or covidtests.gov. Click here to find testing and vaccination sites in Sarasota-Manatee.
