As Sarasota County continues to grapple with a surge in Covid-19 cases, several local organizations will be sponsoring vaccine clinics next weekend in conjunction with the Sarasota County Department of Health. The clinics will be held on August 28 and 29. The vaccine will be provided for free, and Publix and Walmart gift certificates will be given to those who get vaccinated while supplies last.

The Sarasota County Democratic Party, Sarasota Democratic Black Caucus, Sarasota Democratic Hispanic Caucus and Build Local Power are working with local organization Shots In Arms, whose mission and vision are to increase the vaccination rate among Black and Brown communities and other underserved populations.

On Saturday, Aug. 28, vaccines will be available from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Church of the Cross (Vida de Reino), 3005 S. Tuttle Ave., just south of Webber Street). Sunday’s clinic, on August 29, is being held from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Newtown-North Sarasota Redevelopment Office, 1782 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way at N. Osprey Avenue.

Residents aged 12 and older will be able to receive the Pfizer vaccine, with a limited number of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines also available to residents 18 and older.
