Another 870,000 People Filed For Unemployment Last Week
As the number of deaths from Covid-19 passed 200,000 this week, the U.S. Department of Labor announced that 870,000 people filed for unemployment during the week ending Sept. 19. The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Sept. 12 were in Indiana (1,990), Kansas (1,928), Illinois (1,906), and Michigan (1,727), while the largest decreases were in California (17,400), Texas (15,905), Louisiana (8,384), Georgia (8,235) and Washington (3,291).
Additionally, 630,080 people filed for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, the government’s relief program for freelancers, the self-employed and part-time workers.
