Sarasota County has developed a plan to allow legal vacation rentals in accordance with an executive order from Gov. Ron DeSantis, the county announced this week. All local and municipal ordinances for vacation rentals apply.

Reservations and stays in all legal vacation rentals will only be allowed from Florida and U.S. states with a COVID-19 case rate of less than 700 cases per 100,000 residents as of May 15, and reservations from international travelers will not be accepted.

Among other guidelines, remote check-ins should be made available when possible to minimize face-to-face interactions, and local and CDC resources must be provided to all guests while staying on property. Landlords must follow all Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) sanitation guidelines, as well as CDC-related guidelines for public spaces, businesses, schools and homes that expand upon theState of Florida and DBPR requirements for safety and sanitation for all lodging. Existing cleaning programs may be augmented to include even more rigorous sanitation and disinfection protocols, and renters are encouraged to allow extra time for CDC-approved enhanced cleaning procedures to take place between stays. If multiple members of the cleaning and/or rental staff are present at a property, they should remain at least six feet apart at all times, and wear masks and gloves.
