Sweet Sparkman Is Creating Face Shields for Healthcare Workers

Sweet Sparkman Architecture and Interiors is collaborating with MRG 3D to supply thousands of protective face shields to Sarasota and Tampa Bay healthcare workers and others on the front lines of the COVID-19 outbreak. The endeavor is part of a global initiative to ease pressure on supply chains and governments during the pandemic. Sweet Sparkman partner Jerry Sparkman says that more than 14,000 shields already have been printed and distributed to local medical professionals.
Those without the needed technology can participate, as well, Sparkman adds. An “Adopt A 3D Printer Program” has been created that enables donors to purchase a 3D printer for volunteer use. Donor funds also help with supplies, machine maintenance and repair. Donors will receive regular updates on their printer in action; later, the printer can be donated to a local organization selected by the donor, helping build a community response network and workforce should a need arise in the future.
Those wishing to volunteer in the Sarasota region can join the initiative's Facebook group here and should contact Amanda Reyes-Martin at [email protected]. All Sarasota area volunteers will be contacted and provided with an open-source 3D file, printing instructions and local drop-off information. Sweet Sparkman Architecture and Interiors reminds volunteers that they must follow OSHA health and safety regulations, and those who are ill are asked not to volunteer.
