The Academy at Glengary—a working community where adults pursue mental health recovery—is ramping up efforts to support its members during the current economic downturn due the coronavirus pandeic. Thanks to a $10,000 Workforce Development grant from the Bank of America Foundation, the academy is implementing creative strategies to support members who have lost their jobs or who are in search of employment during COVID-19. With the use of up-to-date technology, academy members have the opportunity to participate in a “virtual” workday from the comfort of their own home, keeping up on technical skills, stamina and concentration. In addition, the academy is coordinating with its employment partners—including Sunset Cadillac, the Pines of Sarasota, the Public Defenders Office, Sarasota Memorial Health Care and Doctors Hospital—to ensure that members who have temporarily lost their jobs will be eligible for rehire once things return to normal.
