In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sarasota's playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball courts and other amenities at city parks will be closed to the public effective 9 a.m. today. Outdoor park areas will remain open for walking, jogging, exercise and enjoyment, City of Sarasota officials said in a release; however, citizens are urged to follow federal and state guidelines about social distancing and public gatherings.

The city has also announced the closure of its recreational facilities, buildings and auditoriums; however, most city operations are available online. A local public health emergency remains in effect.
