2017's Hurricane Irma

Researchers are continuing to predict a below-average Atlantic hurricane season, according to a new update published by scientists at Colorado State University. After originally predicting an above-average hurricane season, the researchers reduced their estimate last month. In their latest bulletin, they predict a total of 12 named storms this year, with five hurricanes among them. They anticipate just one "major hurricane," which refers to a Category 3, 4 or 5 storm. Hurricane season continues through Friday, Nov. 30.
