The Sarasota County Council of Neighborhood Associations is hosting a discussion of the Sarasota County Planning Commission's recent decision to recommend denial of plans to sell public land adjacent to the Celery Fields in east Sarasota. Adrien Lucas and Tom Matrullo will discuss the commission's decision, as well as possible future actions by the Sarasota County Commission, which may still allow the plan to go forward. The plan "arose due to a current offer to sell public lands adjacent to the Celery Fields for a construction waste processing facility, which has drawn the objections of adjacent neighborhoods, environmental groups, conservationists, and many concerned individuals in neighborhoods throughout the region," according to a Sarasota County Council of Neighborhood Associations email on the topic. The meeting begins with social time at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 12, with the discussion scheduled to begin at 7. The meeting will be held at the Sarasota Garden Club, 1131 Boulevard of the Arts, Sarasota.
