Sweet Sparkman Architecture and Interiors was recently honored by the Gulf Coast Chapter of the American Institute of Architects for its design work on four projects:

A merit award for an energy-efficient, 6,900-square-foot farmhouse in Myakka. With expanses of glass to open it to the scenic exterior, the residence also incorporates two breezeways to capture the predominant breezes. Sited on the land in relationship to existing old-growth oak trees, the home is oriented to the view of a natural lake.
 
A merit award for Brentwood Elementary in Sarasota, which involved restoring a Sarasota School of Architecture neighborhood gem that had become outdated. The project included elements that ranged from replacing the cafeteria to upgrading HVAC equipment to renovating classrooms and beautifying the campus.
 
A merit award for "Unbuilt Design" for Bayfront Park in Sarasota. This 42-acre destination site will incorporate a pier, great lawn, shade structures and food pavilion, with architectural structures that support public gathering spaces with generous areas for shade and shelter.
 
An honorable mention for a 6,000-square-foot luxury residence in Boca Grande.
