Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMH) has added Stephen Kucera, M.D., a specialist in digestive and gastrointestinal diseases, to its First Physicians Group network. A board-certified gastroenterologist, Kucera joins gastrointestinal oncology specialist Kenneth Meredith, M.D., in FPG's gastrointestinal specialty practice. Together, they provide comprehensive testing and treatment for patients with cancers of the liver, pancreas, bile duct or esophagus. Prior to joining First Physicians Group, Kucera spent six years in private practice in Sarasota, caring for patients with cancers of the gastrointestinal tract and helping SMH build its endoscopic oncology program. He works closely with other GI specialists, as well as medical and radiation oncologists in the community. Kucera earned his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine on Dominica, West Indies. He went on to complete his internal medicine residency at Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, and gastroenterology fellowship at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He is also fellowship-trained in interventional endoscopy and endoscopic oncology from Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.
