Tidewell Hospice has partnered with Venice Regional Bayfront Health to open a hospital-based inpatient hospice unit. The Tidewell Care Center is located on the hospital’s fourth floor and features seven private rooms. The new unit is in addition to the Venice Hospice House, Tidewell’s first hospice house, which is a six-bed facility. The new care center will be staffed 24/7 by Tidewell Hospice clinical professionals. Criteria for admission will be the same as it is for Tidewell’s eight hospice houses. Patients in need of continuous symptom control can be admitted to the center for around-the-clock care while their condition is stabilized. When those symptoms are brought under control and patients and their family members feel comfortable making the transition, they can return to their residence, wherever that may be.
