The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration this week approved plans for two new hospitals to be built in Venice: one a new Sarasota Memorial Health Care System campus, the other a replacement facility for Venice Regional Bayfront Health. Sarasota Memorial plans to open a new 90-bed acute care facility on Laurel Road. Venice Regional’s replacement facility will be located on East Venice Avenue near Jacaranda Boulevard. Sarasota Memorial is already moving ahead with planning, designing and building its new 65-acre hospital campus; Venice Regional expects to begin construction on its facility either later this year or in early 2019, with a projected opening in 2021.
