Sarasota's Florence A. Rothman Institute recently hired two graduates from New College of Florida’s master’s program in data science. Erin Craig and Carlos Arias will work as data scientists at the nonprofit institute, which focuses on using data analytics to improve patient care. Craig, who works with the institute's medical records team, holds a master of science in data science and a bachelor of arts in mathematics from New College. Before returning to school for her master’s degree, she worked at Wolfram Research, where she led teams that were developing math content. Arias’ primary research interest is developing machine learning tools for the health care environment. He is currently researching the use of deep learning and text analysis to provide better quality care for hospital patients.
