Veth Senenoi

If you’ve ever been to Pacific Rim, owner Veth Senenoi (pronounced "Vet") has probably welcomed you with a big smile and genuine gratitude. A true gentleman, the Laos/Thailand native talks to us about his dapper, no-fuss fashion and love of blazers, thriving business and his favorite item he owns.

WHO: Veth Senenoi, owner of Pacific Rim

WHAT I DO: I came to the United States with no grasp of the language, no place to call home and no understanding of the culture. I have taught myself everything I know regarding our business, and Pacific Rim opened in 1998. After a few years, I was blessed with a thriving business. Since then, I've done whatever needs to be done at work. We've designed a workplace that has no titles and no hierarchy. It’s a place where everyone has to do his or her part in order to provide the best service we can for our patrons–even if that means I have to clean the toilets. I will never ask any employee of mine to do anything that I wouldn't do myself. We have a great staff, and it feels like a family, for sure.

FAVORITE ASPECT OF THE JOB: Serving our community, giving back when we can and, most of all, inviting the community in. Our restaurant is an extension of our home and our patrons are family to us. They have supported us for nearly two decades, and we have the privilege of celebrating that each day when we open our doors. By far, this is the most rewarding part of our job.

BEST SUSHI ROLL: My favorite roll is the hamachi with avocado on top. A lot of our menu items stem from our regular customers, and we love their suggestions. Sometimes our head sushi chef gets an opportunity to put a fun spin on it to call our own. We like "playing with our food." It makes it fun.

MY STYLE: Honestly, it's just me. I buy what catches my eye, what feels comfortable and what fits best.

HOW HAS YOUR STYLE EVOLVED: Well, like the rest of us, I'm not getting any younger, so my style evolves like I do. I really enjoy spending time in my "comfy" clothes when the opportunity presents itself. Being in the service industry and serving our community, however, also gives me an opportunity to dress for the occasion each night and host our patrons.

WHOSE STYLE INSPIRES YOU? I don't think about it much. I just buy clothes that are comfortable,  no matter who makes them--everything from GAP to Armani, depending on my mood and budget.

STYLE TIP FOR MEN: Don't dress to impress, dress to stay true to you. Be comfortable in what you wear, and it will allow you to manage any situation you find yourself in. When you're uncomfortable, it shows.

I will also say that I think my best friend is my dry cleaner. Let's just say we have a great relationship. He knows my clothes as well, if not better, than I do!

FAVORITE DESIGNERS: I don't have any favorite designers, per se. I just enjoy certain styles that work for me. I shop like everyone else does. I look for sales, and if I find something I like, I'll buy it every color.

MY GO-TO ITEM: Blazers, but I love watches and handkerchiefs as well.

FAVORITE ITEM I OWN: A Rolex watch my mother-in-law gave to me. She saw how hard I was working and gave me the 1975 vintage watch as a gift.

FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN: You can almost always find me in a blazer and dressed up. It makes me feel confident and happy.
