First symphonies and concerti frequently hold special meaning to composers. These two firsts by Brahms and Sibelius are intense adventures. Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 1 is a giant among piano concerti. Lukáš Vondráček, winner of the 2016 International Queen Elizabeth Piano Competition, will take on this formidable and beloved concerto. Sibelius's First Symphony is a patriotic tribute to his homeland of Finland. Music Director Anu Tali is the conductor.
The Friday night concert takes place at Neel Performing Arts Center in Bradenton.
