Serving Sarasota and Southwest Florida for FORTY YEARS

Dr. F. Scott Corbett has served our region since 1984 as its first fellowship-trained advanced therapeutic endoscopist. His dedication to excellence and innovation has brought him both national and international recognition, with patients coming from as far as Moscow for his services. This past year he was recognized by the Florida Senate for his work with Barrett’s esophagus and the prevention, early detection, and treatment of esophageal cancer. His advocacy to Congress for his patients and colleagues has resulted in positive changes to Medicare policies. His attention to detail and patient safety invites industry leaders to seek his expertise when introducing new devices leading to several firsts in his field.  His collaboration with some of the greatest minds in modern medicine has helped launch a new minimally invasive technique for the detection of early pancreatic cancer and pre-cancer while it is still curable (Adenocyte-LINFU, see “Pap smear for the pancreas”). As of this writing, Dr. Corbett is the only individual to have performed this technique in humans though the hope is to bring the process to all those who are at greater risk for this devastating disease.

Dr. Corbett attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and Hofstra University in New York prior to receiving his MD from New York University School of Medicine.

His internship, residency, and GI fellowship were at the University of Miami affiliated hospitals. His entire career has been in Sarasota.

Dr. Corbett is now limiting his practice to disorders of the esophagus, stomach, and pancreatic and biliary systems. He is currently conducting several national studies on Barrett’s surveillance (SWAT-BE), Barrett’s with low-grade dysplasia (SURVENT), and the early detection of pancreatic cancer and dysplasia in patients at increased risk (Adenocyte-LINFU).
