Historic Spanish Point: Butterfly House

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens' Historic Spanish Point in Osprey has a new experience for visitors starting Saturday: the region's only butterfly house, nestled beside the outdoor Native Butterfly Garden. Butterflies play an important role in pollination, and more than 160 species breed in Florida, with about 200 migrating through the state. Look for the cloudless sulfur, giant swallowtail, Gulf fritillary, monarch, orange-barred sulphur and zebra longwing--and, of course, some colorful flowers in the garden, too. selby.org

Road to Resilience: The Wizard of Oz

Speaking of resilience…join this new Sarasota nonprofit helping those impacted by trauma and abuse when it hosts a drive-in movie screening of the classic The Wizard of Oz. Costume and pumpkin decorating contests, food trucks and a driving tour of the conservation land property at 13010 Fruitville Road are all included. Monster Movie Mashup

Another fun drive-in movie experience, this one showcasing the cult 1967 animated musical comedy Mad Monster Party. But before the film rolls, guest artists of the Manatee Performing Arts Center will sing mashup tributes to sci fi and horror movie stars. The event takes place at 7:30 p.m. each night in the MPAC parking lot; you can stay in your car or bring chairs and blankets to sit in pre-marked areas. Venice Theatre: The Vagina Monologues
