The company winds up its digital season of dance with two pieces, each featuring seven couples: Sir Frederick Ashton’s Birthday Offering, and Twyla Tharp’s Nine Sinatra Songs. Get set to watch by purchasing your tickets at sarasotaballet.org.

Hermitage Artist Retreat: Michael R. Jackson: Just Sittin’ Here Lookin’

Pulitzer Prize winner Jackson (A Strange Loop) is the next guest to turn up in person on the Hermitage Beach on Manasota Key Road (and via livestream), at 6:30 p.m. A collaboration with Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe, the evening offers music and stories by the playwright, a Hermitage Fellow. And while you’re there, you might also want to sign up for the Hermitage Sunsets @ Selby Gardens talk with musical theater composer Rona Siddiqui, at 6 p.m. May 27, if space remains.  

Sarasota Seafood & Music Festival

May 21-23

It’s downtown Sarasota’s turn on the festival circuit, with food, arts and crafts and, of course, lots of live music ranging from soul to country to bluegrass to rock, at JD Hamel Park. General admission is free; find out more by emailing [email protected] or calling (941) 487-8061.

Theatre Odyssey: Ten-Minute Play Festival

May 20-23

Tune in via podcast to the eight winning short plays of the 16th annual festival, including four by Sarasota playwrights. You can get your ticket to listen at theatreodyssey.org.

The Bridge Jazz Concert

May 27

In-person tickets to hear jazz songstress Synia Carroll and Tampa Bay bass trio La Lucha, at the Fogartyville Community Media & Arts Center, are unfortunately sold out. But you can still purchase virtual tickets to listen to the concert, a collaboration between the Jazz Club of Sarasota, radio station WSLR and Fogartyville. Check it out at wslr.org/fogartyville.

Embracing Our Differences

May 20-Aug. 8

If you didn’t get a chance to stop by this outdoor, large-scale exhibition promoting diversity at downtown Sarasota’s Bayfront Park during its run there (or even if you did), there’s now a chance to view it at Nathan Benderson Park’s Regatta Island.
