 Art Center Sarasota: Here Comes the Sun

This juried exhibition featuring work in a wide range of styles and media by regional artists kicks off with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the art center. Take a peek then, or stop by 707 N. Florida Studio Theatre: Rounding Third

This comedy by Richard Dresser about two Little League coaches who have very opposite approaches both to baseball and to life is the third and final offering in FST’s mainstage summer season (at the Gompertz Theatre). Tickets are on sale at floridastudiotheatre.org or by calling (941) 366-9000.

Venice Summer Cabaret Festival

July 22 and 23; 24 and 25

The annual summer fest in the Pinkerton Theatre continues with the show Over the Rainbow starring Luke McFatrich and friends, offering songs like “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” and “Imagine” (Thursday and Friday); and This Little Light of Mine, starring frequent VT actress Syreeta Banks delivering songs that have helped her on life’s journey (Saturday and Sunday). U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships

Through July 25

Never mind those Olympics in Tokyo; we have great athletes competing much closer to home. More than 2,000 soccer players under the age of 19 are competing at the Premier Sports Campus in the Lakewood Ranch area this week, with finals for those 13 and under Friday and the championship game for 14- to 19-year-olds Sunday.If you're in the mood, learn more here.

Sol of the Circle Family Day

National Hot Dog Day

Summer Movies at Sarasota Opera House

On this week’s schedule at the opera house are the romantic comedy Moonstruck, starring Cher and Nicolas Cage (7:30 p.m. Saturday), and the opera film Manon Lescaut, featuring the earliest version of that opera on the stage of Teatro all Scala in Milan (1:30 p.m. Sunday). Free Music Friday Night Concert
