The Players Centre for Performing Arts: Souvenir

Jan. 21-31

This show concept will be familiar to those who saw Meryl Streep star as socialite and would-be singer Florence Foster Jenkins in the film bearing her name. Here Jenkins is played by Players stalwart Ellie Pattison, who is joined by Cory Woomert as her accompanist and accomplice Cosme McMoon. Hermitage Sunsets @ Selby Gardens

Sarasota Open Air Fine Art Show

Jan. 23 and 24

You may recall this open-air show from last fall at Phillippi Estate Park. It returns with more fine arts and crafts for sale, in a juried format, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Burger & Beer Festival

Two of our favorite things return during this second annual fest held at The Mall at University Town Center, from noon to 6 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday. Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative Arts & Racial Justice Panel Series

A panel touching on topics of diversity and racial equity in the visual arts. Moderated by renowned journalist Charlayne Hunter-Gault, the panel welcomes Gale Fulton-Ross, Katherine Pill and museum directors Steven High and Anne-Marie Russell. The talk starts at 5 p.m. Monday. New College Foundation New Topics Lecture

There are lots of virtual talks and panels are going on right now, including “Inclusion at Any Cost? When New College Was ‘Home’ to a White Nationalist,” featuring R. Derek Black. Black was once a white nationalist who came to change his way of thinking after attending New College of Florida. He is the subject of the book Rising Out of Hatred: The Awakening of a Former White Nationalist, and was also profiled in Sarasota Magazine. The talk starts at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Angels for Artists Art Auction and Rock ’n’ Roll Benefit

In its second year, this Halo Arts Project event goes virtual for an auction starting at 5:30 Wednesday and will employ social distancing for a silent art auction starting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, at Mara Gallery at 1421 Fifth St., Sarasota.
