New Year’s Eve Block Party and Pineapple Drop

That’s right, plans for this downtown Sarasota celebration are proceeding, with the “party” kicking off at 1 p.m. and continuing to welcome 2022 until 1:30 a.m. There will be rides and games (at Five Points Park), food, drinks, and live music from Kettle of Fish, the Dr. Dave Band and Twinkle, and, of course, the big drop itself at midnight and fantastic fireworks over Sarasota Bay. Have something a bit earlier in the day in mind, that the kids will be wide awake for? The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature in Bradenton will ring in the New Year starting in the morning, with a countdown and balloon drop taking place in the courtyard. Kids can also design egg shakers, create party hats and write resolutions for 2022. Museum admission Dec. 31 is half-price, and the venue closes that day at 1 p.m. No registration necessary, but to learn more, head to bishopscience.org/events.

The FSU/Asolo Conservatory kicks off 2022 with this Amy Herzog play about a young American couple, Zack and Abby, who seems to have the perfect life in a funky bohemian apartment in Paris. Jefferson Starship

“Find Your Way Back” to the sounds of this rock band, spun off decades ago from Jefferson Airplane. Its members make their Sarasota debut with a stop for New Year’s Eve at the Van Wezel on their “Mother of the Sun” tour; for tickets, go to vanwezel.org.

The Woman Who Broke Boundaries: Photographer Lee Miller

If you haven’t headed over the Sunshine Skyway bridge yet to see this exhibit of images by groundbreaking female photographer Miller at the Dali Museum, you have until Sunday to do so. The show concentrates on her portraits of writers and artists, along with some self-portraits and photos taken during the liberation of Paris and Germany at the end of World War II. thedali.org
