Kabuki Modern

Through June 27

Explore the centuries-old Japanese theater art of Kabuki with this exhibit at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art’s Asian Art Center. About 20 objects, including many woodblock print actor portraits, called yakusha-e, will be on view, dating from 1868 to the 1950s. ringling.org

Live from the Sarasota Opera House

Sopranos Hanna Brammer, Anna Mandina and Caitlin Crabill, tenors Andrew Surrena and Samuel Schlievert, baritone Alexander Boyd and bass Young Bok Kim deliver opera selections by Verdi, Rossini, Puccini, Wagner and Mozart in these concerts, with a limited number of in-person tickets available as well as a live stream available for two weeks. Sarasota Open Air Fine Art Show

Nov. 14 and 15

Phillippi Estate Park (5500 S. Tamiami Trail) is the setting for this art show welcoming up to 80 professional artists working in all media, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is free; parking is $5, which supports the Institute for the Arts & Education. Covid safety precautions will be in place. More info here.

Bay Music Live!

Nov. 14

Popular area music group Jah Movement, known for its reggae sound mixed with R&B, soul and funk,  headlines this outdoor concert at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, which kicks off at 4 p.m. with music starting at 4:30 p.m. Lawn spaces and tables will be arranged for social distancing, and food and beverage will be available for purchase. Starlight Movie Night

The Florida Cultural Group Inc. produces this outdoor movie event featuring four family-friendly films shown on big screens set up at four outdoor locations: Holmes Beach Community Park, the Manatee Performing Arts Center, the Premier Sports Campus at Lakewood Ranch, and Palmetto on the Manatee River. Choral Artists of Sarasota: Spanish Flair

Venice Theatre: Patsy Cline Live

Nov. 13, 14 and 15

Singer-actress Alana Opie, who has appeared as country singer Cline before in Always, Patsy Cline, returns to VT’s Mainstage Jervey Theatre to offer some of Cline’s hits, accompanied by a small live band. Tickets must be purchased 24 hours in advance of the show you plan to attend at venicetheatre.org, or by emailing [email protected].

Visions of the Black Experience Film Series

Nov. 12-22

The lineup for this virtual series includes a Chadwick Boseman retrospective and locally made films Through the Tunnel, Into the Storm, Sincerely, The Black Kids, and 9/11 Kids. Expect documentaries, narratives and shorts, along with live Q&As with filmmakers and panel discussions. It's a collaboration involving the Sarasota Film Festival and numerous local organizations, and it’s free with registration required at visionsoftheblackexperience.com.
