World Rowing Championships Generated $18.7 Million in Local Economic Impact
Organizers had predicted that the event would generate $25 million in economic impact for the region.
The World Rowing Championships, held at Sarasota's Nathen Benderson Park from Sept. 23 to Oct. 1, resulted in an economic impact of almost $18.7 million in Sarasota and Manatee counties, according to survey results released by Visit Sarasota County on Thursday. That includes $11.3 million in direct spending by people who live outside the region. The total economic impact for the state of Florida was $22.6 million. Organizers had predicted that the event would generate $25 million in economic impact for the Suncoast alone.
