Giving back to the community is second nature to Nelle Miller. Growing up under the roof of a social activist and philanthropist, Miller absorbed the values and sense of responsibility that naturally gravitated her to nonprofit organizations. Miller began her community involvement as young as 8, calling residents in her hometown of Long Island, New York, and encouraging them to vote. While she was scratching names off her call list, Miller was setting the stage for a lifetime passion of community impact. “I feel a great sense of debt and responsibility to help others,” says Miller.

After founding and spearheading several tech companies in Boston, Miller moved to Sarasota where she further developed her desire to work with charitable organizations to help the community. Miller’s strong belief in collaborative philanthropy led her to the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and its sprawling network of partner organizations and philanthropists. Seeing herself as a connector, Miller felt aligned with the Community Foundation’s philosophy of bringing together passionate donors with the community.

As the incoming chair of the board of directors for the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, Miller finds herself at the center of charitable giving in the region.

“I appreciate the opportunity to motivate and inspire others,” says Miller. “If I am helping somebody help another person, that’s what it all comes down to. I prefer to give the community the credit it deserves. We live in an incredibly generous community and it’s truly an honor to be involved in it.”
