Sustainable Communities Workshop Returns This Fall

The event will feature a talk by former astronaut Nicole Stott, plus discussion of plastic pollution, habitat restoration, food systems and more.

Sarasota County's 13th annual Sustainable Communities Workshop will take place 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, with the theme being "Unique Perspectives for Community Solutions." The event showcases solutions for creating and maintaining healthy, resilient and thriving communities, with the goal of drawing together residents, business owners and employees, nonprofit leaders and government officials to learn about environmental, economic and social aspects of sustainability. The event will feature a talk by former astronaut Nicole Stott, who creates images from space and the sea in order to increase appreciation of Earth and encourage an obligation to care for the planet. Other topics will include plastic pollution, environmental communication, habitat restoration, food systems and more. The workshop takes place at the Girl Scouts Event and Conference Center, 4740 Cattlemen Road, Sarasota. Registration is $24-$45.
