Lima & Iconic Cities to Dream About, an exhibition of urban landscapes by Peruvian photographer Rodrigo Riz, will open to the public Thursday evening, July 12 at the Peruvian restaurant and bar, Brasa & Pisco. A opening meet the artist reception from 7 to 10 p.m. will feature Peruvian appetizers and drinks in addition to the regular Brasa & Pisco menu. The exhibit will be on display until late August.

Before moving to Paris in 2016, the lifestyle and fashion photographer lived in Lima, Peru and New York City. Large-scale inkjet prints of these three cities will be featured in the Brasa & Pisco show, along with images of Prague, Milan, Madrid and Amsterdam.

Riz says these places reflect different versions of the dream he has for his own life and work, and he hopes the photographs’ large scale will allow viewers to get lost in the cities as they picture themselves as part of the urban atmosphere. “Every city I photographed has, at different points in my life, started out as a dream, as somewhere I dreamed to go,” he says. “I want people to come and take some time to dream about being in the photo, get out from their routine and be reminded of the places they can go. I believe everyone wants to go somewhere."

Desire is a central theme and a source of inspiration in Riz’s work. Desire—to go somewhere new, to connect with someone, to look a certain way—has the ability to motivate and inspire both artists and audiences.

“At a young age I found that I could manifest the desire of the places I wanted to visit through art,” Riz says. “To me, pieces of art are magnets that attract the possibility of reaching that desire.”

Riz began working as a professional photographer in 2012, shooting for fashion designer Gerardo Privat in Lima. He then moved to the United States—first to Ohio, then to New York City—where he continued to work in fashion while also expanding to portrait and landscape photography. He is currently working on a more intimate and personal photography project he hopes to present in Paris by the end of next year.
