At 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23, the Sarasota County Commission will discuss whether to rezone 16 acres of property near the Celery Fields to allow for the construction of a recycling center. The plans have encountered opposition from environmental activists and residents from nearby neighborhoods, who are planning a rally at 8 a.m. before the meeting outside the County Commission building at 1660 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota. The Sarasota County Planning Commission voted 7-0 against the proposal in June.
