The Sarasota branch of Bankers Life recently honored local resident Linda Davis with its Golden Beacon award, created to highlight individuals who are 50 and older and are making a meaningful impact in their hometowns through volunteerism. In addition to the recognition, Bankers Life is donating $500 in Davis’ name to iTN SunCoast, a cause she supports. Davis, 70, has provided more than 100 rides each year for the past three years for iTN, a nonprofit that provides transportation to individuals 60 years old and older, as well as adults of any age with vision impairments.

The Gulf Coast Community Foundation Board of Directors recently ratified more than $6.7 million in donor-recommended grants. The grants were made between April 1 and May 31 from funds established by donors to the foundation, including individuals, families and organizations.

Volunteers with the Tiny Hands Foundation stuffed 1,500 backpacks with school supplies for local children in need on Saturday. Hundreds of volunteers filled each backpack with notebooks, pens, pencils and other essentials.
