The University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences and Sarasota County's Solid Waste Division are looking for single-family home residents with an interest in composting to participate in a free 12-month composting research project. The goal is to determine the amount of food waste and yard debris that could be diverted from curbside garbage and yard waste collection by home composting. Volunteers must undergo an initial training session before the project begins and then will have access to composting assistance throughout the year. Training will outline the project scope and detail what is required for each participating household. Register online. The training session runs 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at Twin Lakes Park, 6700 Clark Road, Sarasota.
