Amazon is purchasing the grocery store chain Whole Foods Market for $13.7 billion. Whole Foods has one store in downtown Sarasota and a second under construction in east Sarasota. That location is set to open this fall. Whole Foods will continue to operate stores under the Whole Foods Market brand, John Mackey will remain the CEO of Whole Foods and Whole Foods' headquarters will stay in Austin, Texas, according to a press release issued Friday.
