The Leadership Sarasota County Class of 2017 recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the group's class project, Project Play & Learn, at the Roy McBean Boys & Girls Club, 1790 21st St., Sarasota, on May 24. The project is a $30,000 renovation of the facility's exterior that includes a new shade structure over the club's playground, a new bench, 12 new picnic tables, new mulch, landscaping and an overall clean-up.

The Florida Center for Early Childhood, a local nonprofit serving children and their families in Sarasota, Charlotte, Manatee, DeSoto and Hardee counties, recently received a $45,000 grant from the William G. & Marie Selby Foundation. The grant will be used to replace the current server and computers used by the organization and to install a program that will allow all four Florida Center locations in Sarasota, North Port, Arcadia and Port Charlotte to work and communicate on one system.

Manatee County Schools Food & Nutrition Services is preparing to feed students across the district with its Summer BreakSpot program. Food & Nutrition Services will provide free meals to kids at multiple locations this summer. Last summer, more than 153,000 meals were served at 55 sites between the months of June and August.
