Actor Ben Vereen is participating in a fundraising event for Family Promise Sarasota from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, at Michael's on East, 1212 S. East Ave., Sarasota. Family Promise provides transitional housing and services for at-risk families in the county. Vereen is best known for his role in Broadway’s Pippin and in TV's Roots. He is also a recipient of the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award.

The Charles and Margery Barancik Foundation recently granted $65,000 to the Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast to launch the Youth in Nature initiative. The overarching goal is to provide at-risk youth with exciting moments in nature, offering experiences in our region’s parks and preserves. The Robert R. Harlan and Susan H. Lowy Harlan Donor Advised Fund at the Community Foundation of Sarasota County also invested in the initiative.

Sarasota Orthopedic Associates is participating in the Tour De Parks Legacy Trail Fun Ride, held at 7 a.m. on Sunday, March 26, at the Venice Train Station, 303 Legacy Trail, Venice. Proceeds from this event will help to extend the Legacy Trail to Payne Park in Sarasota. Registration is $35.

The Hershorin Schiff Community Day School is holding its first annual Goldie Feldman Legacy Event at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at Sweetgrass Farms, 8350 Carolina St., Sarasota. The event is named after Goldie Feldman, whose generous gift in 1992 served to kick-start the capital campaign that made the opening of the school possible in 1992. Tickets are $200.

The local yoga instructor, wellness coach and author Christie Rosen is holding a donation-based gentle yoga class and book-signing event to support Girls Incorporated of Sarasota County from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, at Pineapple Yoga Studio, 517 S. Pineapple Ave., Sarasota. Click here to register for the class. Girls Incorporated is a local nonprofit dedicated to empowering girls to be strong, self-confident and well-rounded individuals.
