The Sarasota Architectural Foundation is sponsoring two upcoming public events:

 

  • A screening of the PBS documentary, Eero Saarinen - The Architect Who Saw the Future, with a follow-up talk by Sarasota architect Jonathan Parks, at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 5. Saarinen created such seminal projects as St. Louis' Gateway Arch, theGeneral Motors Technical Center, New York's TWA Flight Center at John F. Kennedy International Airport and Virginia's Dulles Airport. The event takes place at Ringling College of Art + Design.

 

The Center for Architecture Sarasota will present a talk by former Miami mayor and urban innovator Manny Diaz at 5:30 p.m. April 6 at the McCullough Pavilion. During his two-term tenure, Diaz implemented innovative programs in the areas of urban design, sustainability and green initiatives, infrastructure investment, affordable housing, poverty and homelessness, education, law enforcement and arts and culture. His CFAS talk is the culmination of CFAS’s season-long exhibition and series of talks about Architecture in the Public Realm. Register at http://cfasrq.org/.

 

The Ringling Museum will present a Ringling ViewPoint Lecture: From Mount Vernon to Ca' d'Zan at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8. Dr. Lydia Mattice Brandt, assistant professor of art history at the University of South Carolina, will discuss America’s love of copying and adapting historic architecture.
