The 20th Annual Boca Royale Invitational Golf Tournament raised more than $85,000 last month for Loveland Village, a Venice nonprofit that provides educational, vocational and residential programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This year's tournament attracted more than 110 golfers; to date, the tournament has raised over $1.3 million for Loveland.
Employees at the accounting firm Kerkering Barberio recently donated $14,000 to United Way Suncoast. Kerkering Barberio and its members conduct an annual campaign to raise funds for the organization.
The Rotary Club of Sarasota Foundation recently awarded Embracing Our Differences with a $5,000 grant to help fund and enhance its education outreach initiatives.
Kyle and Pamela Jacobs of Fairway Funding Group Mortgage Lender recently created a new scholarship for State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota business and finance students. The scholarship is for first-time college students who enroll in a degree-seeking program at the college. The scholarship will be awarded to two students per year in the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years.
Goodwill Manasota recently teamed with Local Tea Company to create a new initiative, Cup of Kindness. Cup of Kindness Tea, which is available for purchase through Goodwill’s website for $20 per bag, includes 15 sachets of tea flavored with fruits and herbs. One hundred percent of proceeds from sales of the tea will support Goodwill’s Special Emergency Resources for Veterans program, helping veterans and their families in need of emergency financial assistance for housing, education and food.
The Lakewood Ranch-based homebuilder Neal Communities recently donated $1,000 to Sarasota's Emma E. Booker Elementary School to support its Positive Behavior Support program. The program rewards students for acting like positive role models.
The Rotary Club of Sarasota and friends of the American historical novelist John Jakes are establishing a new scholarship in his honor for students at New College of Florida. Every year, the John Jakes Endowed Writing Scholarship will support students whose studies focus on writing. The scholarship was created as a tribute to the best-selling author and recognizes his appreciation of New College.
The Manatee YMCA held its annual Campaign Kickoff Luncheon last week. The event featured a number of speakers telling stories about how their lives have been changed by the YMCA. The Manatee YMCA provided $622,226 in financial assistance to those in need in 2016.
The Lakewood Ranch Community Fund's women's giving circles held a mixer event this week to help attendees learn about their efforts to enhance the community. The event featured guest speakers and grant presentations from the Lakewood Ranch Women’s Charitable Fund and the Lakewood Ranch Women’s Giving for Hope Fund, as well as an annual update from the six women's giving circles that participated.
The Junior League of Manatee County is holding Lucky with League, a casino-themed fundraiser, at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at the Manatee Performing Arts Center, 502 Third Ave. W., Bradenton. The party raises money for League projects that benefit children in need throughout Manatee County. Tickets are $86 and are available here.
