The Minneapolis-based corporate retailer Target announced Wednesday that it is purchasing the same-day delivery company Shipt for $550 million. With the acquisition, Target plans to bring same-day delivery services to approximately half of Target stores by early 2018. By late next year, the service will be offered from the majority of Target stores and in all major markets. At first, Target will offer same-day delivery of groceries, home goods, electronics and more. By the end of 2019, same-day delivery will include all major product categories. Target has 1,834 stores in the United States, including five locations in Sarasota and Manatee counties. The company employs 323,000.
