Local attorneys and business and civic leaders have partnered with Habitat for Humanity Sarasota to offer a series of homeowner education classes that Habitat homeowners are required to attend. Eight Habitat partner families are enrolled in the classes held on Tuesday evenings, acquiring credits to graduate into homeownership. Williams Parker Harrison Dietz & Getzen attorney Jeffrey Grebe; Salina Robbins from Robbins Insurance & Financial Services, Inc.; Sandra Rains from Clearpoint, a nonprofit credit counseling agency; employees from Home Depot, Publix Aprons Cooking School and Florida Power & Light; and officers from the City of Sarasota Police Department and firefighters from the Sarasota County Fire Department all offer tips to the new homeowners.

Forty Carrots Family Center recently received a $15,000 grant from the PNC Foundation for its Partners in Play classes, to provide free weekly parenting education and early childhood education in all 14 Sarasota and Manatee county libraries. PNC provided the funding through Grow Up Great, its initiative to help prepare children from birth to age 5 for success in school and life.

Cool Today and Good News Pest Solutions are teaming with Goodwill Manasota and The Florida Center for Early Childhood for the 2016 Giving Challenge, which takes place Sept. 20 and 21. The presidents of Cool Today and Good News Pest Solutions have offered up to $10,000 in total matching funds for the two nonprofits during the Challenge.

The next Art, Rhymes & Beer will take place at JDubs Brewing Company, 1215 Mango Ave., Sarasota, from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24. Artists, performers and local businesses will come together to create an experience filled with music, art and fun to benefit Any Given Child Sarasota. The event will include a silent art auction, as well as a music and art show.
