In 2015, the median lot size of a new, sold single-family detached home dropped under 8,600 square feet, to .19 acres, for the first time since the Census Bureau began tracking the series, according to a blog post published by the National Association of Home Builders. The median lot size in the South Atlantic region, which includes Florida, was .2 acres. The biggest lot size is found in New England, which has a median lot size of .51 acres.
