The Manatee County Planning Commission voted Thursday to approve a change to the county's Future Land Use Map that is intended to allow a Knights Inn hotel property at 2303 First St. E., Bradenton, to become an affordable housing complex. The shift from Light Industrial classification to Retail/Office/Residential for the 7.4-acre parcel "allows for the potential of residential, commercial and offices," according to a county staff report on the proposal. Affordable housing entrepreneur Harvey Vengroff has proposed converting the property into workforce housing, with 240 studio apartments and 150 two-bedroom apartments to be built in the space north of the hotel.
