The nationwide rate of home ownership ticked up slightly, from 62.9 percent to 63.5 percent, between the second and third quarters of 2016, according to data released last week by the United States Census Bureau. The rate has steadily dropped since the fourth quarter of 2004, when the rate reach 69.2 percent.
